Participants book their own air and land transportation to the training program. You can connect with other IIT participants on this website using the Forum to share rides.
Directions to La Casa de Maria Retreat Center
- By Car: From Highway 101, exit San Ysidro Road. (This exit is just south of Santa Barbara) Take San Ysidro Road (toward the mountains) to the second signal light at East Valley Road (Hwy. 192). Turn right. During the first two-tenths of a mile the road curves twice to the left. At the end of the second curve, you will see El Bosque Road to the left. (A discreet brown La Casa de Maria sign is at this intersection, placed low in the visual field.) Turn left onto El Bosque Road. Continue to the end of the road which becomes the entrance to La Casa de Maria.
- By plane: The Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is about 15 miles from La Casa de Maria. The shuttle service Road Runner, tel +1 800-247-7919, cost $86 including gratuity and can carry 7 people. Advance reservations of 24 hours are necessary as this is special service. Taxies are also available and two or more persons traveling together can share one and save. Rates vary between companies ($30-$50) one-way. Car rentals are available.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is an option. People who fly into LAX can take a commuter flight to Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), rent a car, or take Santa Barbara Airbus (phone 805 964-7759, www.sbairbus.com) which has a stop at the Raddison Hotel. Prepaid fares are discounted. A taxi can bring you the 4-½ miles to La Casa de Maria.
- By Amtrak Train: 1+ (800)872-7245 for reservations and schedule information. The Amtrak station in Santa Barbara is about 5 miles from La Casa de Maria. A taxi is the best way to travel from the train station to La Casa de Maria.
- By Greyhound Bus: 1+ (800)231-2222 for fare and schedule information. There is a Greyhound station in downtown Santa Barbara, about 7 miles from La Casa de Maria. From there you may take a taxi or the MTD bus, which stops at the corner of East Valley Road and San Ysidro Road. It is then about a one mile walk to La Casa de Maria from this bus stop.
